Behind the Scenes with Tracy Morgan for Scare Tactics

These are a few images we did of Tracy Morgan for Scare Tactics. We did the shoot in Pennsylvania because Tracy was on tour at the time. Shooting outside of New York or LA can be a challenge sometimes because there is no access to production nearby, so once all the equipment is brought in from New York, there’s no calling for gear at the last minute.

    

                                       

One of the concepts Tracy’s head surrounded by a bunch of halloween masks. We had a few digital sketches and reference photos to work from. We lit the shot from below to give it that classic monster movie look. We shot the masks separately and then brought Tracy in.

The shot of Tracy in the room was a lot more complicated. Shawn Patrick Anderson put together a beautiful set for us with lots of little details. In order to really highlight all these details (the taxidermy, the paintings, furniture) we had to use lots of little lights (with grids to control spread).

We gelled the lights to match the ambient light and give the whole shot a warmer feel. 

                     

We hid some lights behind Tracy’s chair to fill in the areas behind him.

                     

        

We also had to shoot Tracy on seamless to be placed over other images, like the DVD cover.
