Behind the Scenes for MTV’s Inbetweeners

MTV hired me to photograph the new show The Inbetweeners in Los Angeles, California last December. We needed to do a picture with the guys washing their sweet ride all sexed up with soap and water like it was a hot summer day. The problem was it was a cold winter day in LA. The temp was about 45 °F. You wanna be a star you gotta get your feet wet!  These guys crushed it and didn’t end up in the hospital!

It takes an army!

To get control over the sun we had to fly a 20x20 silk to put the car in the shade.  We used an open silver Elinchrom Octabank for our keylight. The we used a large Chimera stripbank for a soft fill light for the key and to ensure catchlights in the eyes.  ALSO  we used another large open Elinchrom Octabank to light the house.

O.T. from Artworks Hollywood provided all the suds and water along with the props to dress the set!  You rock brotha!!

Jim from Industrial Color took care of digital capture for us under his tricked out location work station.  We used a Hassleblad H2 with the Phase One P65 back locked off on a tripod to give us options in post production for the water effects!

Bagged up to keep the water off!

We also used a Photoflex mini bank open with a bit of straw gel to emulate the backlight from the sun and to give light to the water effects.

Livin the dream!

Thanks to MTV for letting me torture these guys!!
